Another year, another Arbor Day—a festival full of vitality and hope. It is not only an opportunity to sow greenery but also the traditional day for Carbonstop to announce its 13th consecutive year of achieving carbon neutrality.
This year, Carbonstop relied on its self-developed Carbon Cloud (Ccloud) platform to efficiently complete a comprehensive inventory of the company's carbon emissions for 2024 and successfully achieved carbon neutrality for the year!
A carbon inventory is the foundation of carbon neutrality and the starting point of our actions.
In 2024, Carbonstop continued to use the model from previous years and, with the cooperation of multiple departments, once again utilized the Carbon Cloud platform to independently complete the company’s carbon inventory for 2024. This allowed us to precisely quantify greenhouse gas emissions within the company’s operational boundaries (Scope 1, Scope 2, and Scope 3). This not only gave us a clearer understanding of our own carbon emissions but also provided accurate data support for subsequent emission reduction actions.
Through the carbon inventory, we learned that the company emitted a total of 144.861 tons of CO2 equivalent in 2024, a significant decrease compared to 2022. With the help of visualized data dashboards, we precisely identified emission hotspots, making the top emission sources clear at a glance. Those high-emission processes hidden in daily operations were no longer concealed.
We found that the company's carbon emissions are mainly concentrated in Scope 2 (indirect emissions from purchased electricity or heat) and Scope 3 (emissions from upstream and downstream activities in the value chain). Therefore, Carbonstop introduced the "Office Carbon Reduction Initiative" this year.
For Scope 2 emissions, Carbonstop advocates:
- Standby mode: Set computers, printers, and other devices to enter standby or sleep mode when not in use.
- Power off after work: Turn off all device power after work to avoid standby energy consumption, including computers, power strips, and water dispensers.
- Printing: Avoid color printing unless necessary and try to use double-sided printing.
- Reasonable temperature settings: Set air conditioning to around 26°C in summer and heating to around 20°C in winter.
- Regular maintenance: Clean air conditioner filters and maintain equipment regularly to ensure efficient operation.
Scope 3 emissions account for the "majority" of the company's total emissions, particularly in the business travel module. To address this, we advocate:
- Trip optimization: Plan trips reasonably to avoid frequent back-and-forth travel and aim to complete multiple tasks in one trip.
- Prioritize public transportation: Choose trains, subways, buses, and other public transportation methods to reduce the use of airplanes and high-carbon-emission vehicles.
- Shared mobility: Encourage carpooling or shared mobility services to reduce single-person driving.
- Reduce resource waste: Minimize the use of disposable items such as towels and bed sheets in hotels and avoid unnecessary replacements.
- Energy-saving behavior: Turn off air conditioners, lights, and appliances when leaving hotel rooms to reduce energy consumption.
Employee commuting carbon emissions are among the top five emission sources. We were delighted to see that almost all employees actively participated by voluntarily purchasing high-quality carbon credits to offset their annual commuting carbon emissions. This became a microcosm of Carbonstop's 2024 carbon neutrality efforts.
To recognize these "zero-carbon messengers" and actively participating employees, the company specially established low-carbon hero vouchers, with the reward amount equivalent to the "total carbon assets purchased by all employees," to encourage more people to engage in personal low-carbon actions.
Based on each employee’s commuting carbon emissions, we awarded the Red Award to the employee with the highest commuting carbon emissions and the Blue Award to the employee with the highest commuting carbon reduction. Additionally, we randomly selected five "reduction lucky stars" from all participating carbonstoppers. These honors not only recognize individual efforts but also inspire the entire team to take green actions.
Every carbonstopper extends sustainability from work into their daily lives.
Carbonstopper A, a cat parent—"I often collect plastic bags from takeaway drinks that might otherwise be discarded and use them to dispose of cat waste. This reduces plastic waste while providing my little cat with an eco-friendly 'toilet.'"
Carbonstopper B, an outdoor enthusiast—"I love outdoor activities. Whenever I have free time, I bring garbage bags and head into the mountains. While enjoying the tranquility and beauty of nature, I pick up the trash left behind."
Carbonstopper C, a DIY lover—"Old cardboard boxes used to be a problem at home, but since I started using them to make various storage tools, the issue has been solved. I’ve made bookshelves, storage boxes, and shoeboxes out of them. Not only does it make my home tidier and more organized, but it also achieves resource reuse. Every time I see these handmade items, I feel a sense of satisfaction and pride."
Carbonstop's carbon neutrality actions are not just a company's low-carbon behavior—it is like a seed deeply rooted in corporate culture, influencing every employee. Under the influence of each employee, it gradually takes root and sprouts.
Today is Arbor Day, and it is also the day when Carbonstop has achieved carbon neutrality for the thirteenth consecutive year.
From our founding until now, we have taken action from within ourselves, making green the underlying tone of our development, and striving to bring the vibrant colors of life to every industry.
