Recently, under the support of Carbonstop, Mengniu's Low-Temperature Division has completed the full lifecycle carbon footprint calculation for multiple products.
This product carbon footprint calculation was carried out according to the requirements of ISO14067, covering several brands and products, including Youyi C, flavored yogurt, double fruit granules, fresh yogurt, and Daily Fresh Cheese. Data collection and calculations were performed at the benchmark factory—the Wuhan Factory—with plans for long-term tracking of carbon reduction effects. Besides the product level, regular calculations of organizational-level carbon emissions are also conducted to actively seek opportunities for emission reductions. By installing photovoltaic systems and handling methane gas, among other methods, emissions are reduced to achieve dual carbon reduction effects at both the organizational and product levels, supporting the group's carbon targets.

Under the guidance of the group's dual carbon targets, Mengniu's Low-Temperature Division has consistently strengthened carbon emission management across the entire value chain and has undertaken various initiatives at the organizational carbon level. As one of the indicators of organizational carbon footprint effectiveness, the division began gradually calculating product carbon footprints from 2022, systematically tracking and actively reducing product carbon footprints. Following the full lifecycle calculation of two Youyi C series products in 2022, the division continued to collaborate with Carbonstop in 2023 to conduct comprehensive carbon footprint assessments and calculations for core products across the entire low-temperature product line, identifying low-carbon attributes and seeking opportunities for carbon reduction.
Product carbon footprint is an important indicator for measuring the environmental attributes of products and is also a direct manifestation of carbon reduction achievements in operations. Recently, the Ministry of Ecology and Environment led the drafting and co-issued with 14 departments the Implementation Plan for Establishing a Carbon Footprint Management System. Starting from product carbon footprints, the plan clarifies goals and implementation paths, improves domestic rules, promotes international exchanges, and establishes a unified and standardized carbon footprint management system, actively responding to the targets of carbon peak and carbon neutrality.
The Low-Temperature Division adheres to the requirements of low-carbon factories to produce low-carbon products. In the future, it will continue to explore more carbon reduction opportunities throughout the product lifecycle, continuously advance product carbon footprint management, and strive to reduce the full lifecycle carbon footprint of yogurt. Meanwhile, Carbonstop will continue to leverage its professional advantages to provide strong support for reducing the full lifecycle carbon footprint in the food and beverage industry, offering consumers more sustainable choices and creating a greener and better world for the future.
