I. National Strategy

On September 22, 2020, at the 75th United Nations General Assembly, President Xi Jinping announced that China would increase its nationally determined contributions, adopt more robust policies and measures, and strive to peak CO2 emissions before 2030 and achieve carbon neutrality before 2060. This statement has attracted widespread attention globally.

Subsequently, the concept of carbon neutrality was frequently mentioned, becoming a keyword for 2020.

At the UN Biodiversity Summit on September 30, 2020, the Third Paris Peace Forum on November 12, 2020, the 20th Meeting of BRICS Leaders on November 17, 2020, the G20 Summit on November 22, 2020, and the Climate Ambition Summit on December 12, 2020, President Xi Jinping repeatedly mentioned China's carbon peak and carbon neutrality goals and stated that China would formulate and implement plans.

At the Central Economic Work Conference on December 18, 2020, the CPC Central Committee included the work on carbon peaking and carbon neutrality as one of the eight key tasks, emphasizing the formulation of a plan for achieving carbon peak before 2030 and supporting regions with conditions to reach peak emissions first.

The rise of modern great powers comes with responsibility and commitment. In the future international arena, China will play an increasingly important role in the field of low carbon.

II. Path to Neutrality

Carbon neutrality refers to the total greenhouse gas emissions directly or indirectly generated by enterprises, organizations, or individuals over a certain period, which are offset through afforestation, energy conservation, and emission reduction, thereby achieving "zero emissions" of CO2.

As a new form of environmental protection, carbon neutrality is now being adopted by more and more large-scale events and conferences. Carbon neutrality can promote green living and production, achieving comprehensive green development.

The main paths for carbon-neutral conferences include: carbon neutrality planning (carbon emission accounting, planned emission control actions, activity evaluation, public commitment), implementing carbon reduction actions, quantifying greenhouse gas emissions, conducting carbon neutrality activities, and evaluating carbon neutrality.

Green conferences have been one of the key businesses of Carbonstop for many years. In 2014, Carbonstop collaborated with the United Nations Environment Programme to develop a Green Conference Guide.

III. Classic Cases

Classic cases of Carbonstop's carbon-neutral conferences include:

In September 2013, Carbonstop was entrusted by the China Green Carbon Foundation to conduct carbon emission accounting for the Fifth China Ecological Civilization and Green Competitiveness Conference and provide a carbon neutrality solution. The Secretary-General of the China Green Carbon Foundation announced the implementation of carbon neutrality for this conference.

In November 2014, Carbonstop was invited to provide green conference consulting and carbon accounting services for the "11th Sino-Foreign Green Living Forum" organized by the United Nations Environment Programme and China Merchants Group.

In July 2017, Carbonstop was invited to develop a green conference WeChat platform for Schneider Electric and complete the carbon emission accounting for the conference. After the conference, Schneider Electric teamed up with WWF (World Wildlife Fund) to repurchase carbon credits to achieve zero emissions for the conference. Thus, the Shanghai leg of the Innovation Summit was successfully transformed into a carbon-neutral green conference.

In November 2018, Carbonstop assisted in completing the carbon emission accounting for the Hangzhou Marathon. On November 2, Du Yongsheng, Chairman of the China Green Carbon Foundation, attended the press conference for the 2018 Hangzhou Marathon, announcing that the event would achieve carbon neutrality on the day of the race and presented a carbon neutrality honor certificate to the Zhejiang Provincial Sports Bureau and Alibaba Sports Co., Ltd.

Sponsored by Jian Nan Chun and produced by Tencent News, the large-scale adventure documentary "Exploring Planet Earth: Antarctica" invited Carbonstop to prepare a carbon emission inventory for the entire Antarctic expedition, calculating the CO2 emissions throughout the process and purchasing forest carbon credits to offset the total emissions, achieving "zero" emissions for the entire event.

In November 2019, the Global Youth Innovation Camp (UNLEASH 2019) opened at Shenzhen Bay Technology Park, co-hosted by the China Association for Science and Technology and the Shenzhen Municipal Government. Carbonstop accounted for the relevant carbon emissions of the conference and achieved carbon neutrality in collaboration with the China Green Carbon Foundation.

In August 2020, Carbonstop was invited to provide carbon footprint measurement and carbon neutrality services for L'Oréal China's "Go Anytime" journey.

In October 2020, to help users learn more about carbon neutrality, Carbonstop launched a carbon neutrality mini-program, including information on carbon neutrality at the national, corporate, event, and product levels.

In October 2020, the Low-Carbon and Sustainable Tourism Planning and Innovation Development Forum adopted the green conference system developed by Carbonstop. With the assistance of Carbonstop, the forum quantified the carbon emissions from participants' transportation, accommodation, refreshments, electricity usage, and conference materials, calculated the total carbon emissions for the event, and achieved carbon neutrality by purchasing carbon credits.

In November 2020, CYCAN held the Youth Climate Education Creation Camp and commissioned Carbonstop to account for the carbon emissions of the entire event, implementing carbon neutrality based on the results. Additionally, CYCAN invited Carbonstop to be a guest speaker for the fourth-quarter training, providing training on carbon accounting and carbon neutrality.

IV. Technological Empowerment

To promote the concept and practice of green conferences more widely, the Carbonstop team also provides development services for green conference system platforms, enabling green conferences to be implemented in more fields.

For participating users, after entering the mini-program, they can search for conferences they wish to attend. They can view relevant information and register for the conference on the conference page. Once reviewed and approved by the organizer, users can view the conference carbon emissions and calculate their personal participation carbon emissions. More conveniently, users can neutralize their calculated participation carbon emissions, mainly through purchasing CCERs, and obtain a carbon neutrality certificate.
