10 Years of Carbon Neutrality! Carbonstop Innovates with CREO to Practice Carbon Neutrality

Spring revives all things, grass grows lush, and orioles fly—another Arbor Day has arrived.

On this ordinary yet hopeful day, Carbonstop officially announces the achievement of carbon neutrality for 2021. This marks the tenth consecutive year since 2013 that Carbonstop has achieved 100% carbon neutrality!

01 Every Day Is Arbor Day at Carbonstop

Where there is a fragrant orchid, there is a subtle aroma.

Wherever Carbonstop is present, there is a trace of "Arbor Day." Let me explain.

As a carbon neutrality expert, Carbonstop envisions what a carbon-neutral company should look like (for details, see [Carbonstop Original] China's Carbon Neutrality 2.0) and has been striving toward this vision. From the office environment and office supplies to the employees themselves, everything bears the mark of green and low-carbon practices.

The carpet used in the Carbonstop office is the Interface carbon-neutral carpet, which can offset approximately 5,000 kilograms of carbon emissions, equivalent to planting 447 trees.

Additionally, Carbonstop uses leased Roehl air purifiers, avoiding long-term idleness when purifiers are not needed. Each Roehl air purifier can reduce emissions by 28.62 kilograms per quarter, amounting to 114.5 kilograms annually, equivalent to planting 6 trees.

Regarding employee commuting, nearly 70% of Carbonstoppers live near the company and choose the most environmentally friendly way to commute—walking or cycling. Many Carbonstoppers have even moved closer to the company from farther away, collectively reducing carbon emissions by 9,861 kilograms per year, equivalent to planting 550 trees.

Furthermore, Carbonstop created an internal carbon account platform called "Low Carbon with You" and held a carbon reduction competition in Q4 last year. Carbonstoppers reduced about 2,454 kilograms of CO2 equivalents through actions like recycling old clothes and green travel, equivalent to planting 137 trees.

Through these partial carbon reduction actions by Carbonstop, calculated over 250 working days in a year, Carbonstop plants an average of 4 trees every day.

02 "Cloud-Based" Calculation, "Creative" Neutralization

For the path to corporate carbon neutrality, Carbonstop creatively proposed the CREO methodology: Calculating, Reducing, Engaging, and Offsetting.

In this carbon neutrality process, Carbonstop also followed this methodology.

First, the 2021 carbon accounting for Carbonstop's Beijing office primarily focused on indirect emissions from purchased electricity and heat, employee commuting and travel, and purchased goods and services.

To accurately and swiftly calculate the company's annual carbon emissions, Carbonstop used the enterprise carbon management module of the Carbon Cloud platform:

From data collection, information entry, to carbon emission data input, and finally generating a carbon emission report and list with one click, the Carbon Cloud platform once again demonstrated its efficiency, intelligence, and low-cost advantages.

Through the Carbon Cloud enterprise carbon accounting, it was determined that Carbonstop emitted a total of 54.94 tons of CO2 equivalents in 2021, with a per capita emission of 1.1 tons of CO2 equivalents, representing a year-over-year decrease of 37.4%.

In the carbon reduction phase, besides using carbon-neutral office supplies, advocating green commuting for employees, reducing the use of single-use products, and achieving paperless operations, Carbonstop also organized an internal carbon account competition—"Low Carbon with You," encouraging all employees to engage in green and low-carbon activities. Through actions like recycling old clothes and green travel, a total of about 2.45 tons of CO2 equivalents were reduced. Striving for the ultimate in carbon reduction is what a carbon-neutral company should aim for.

In the pursuit of excellence in carbon reduction, Carbonstop also strives for perfection in the carbon offset phase. For the indirect emissions from purchased electricity, totaling 14.9 tons of CO2 equivalents, Carbonstop purchased green certificates. For the remaining emissions from purchased heat and scope three emissions, totaling 40.02 tons of CO2 equivalents, Carbonstop used the Ant Forest co-planting program, the CCER Hubei Licuan Tianping 48 MW wind power project, and VERs to offset these emissions, ultimately completing Carbonstop's 2021 carbon neutrality.

The path is long and arduous, but action leads to success. 2022 marks the 11th year since Carbonstop's founding and the year of breakthroughs in carbon neutrality. At 11 years old, Carbonstop will continue to focus and strive, running hard to be a leader in the carbon neutrality field.
