256Recently, Carbonstop CEO and founder Lu Hui Yan was invited by the UN Global Compact Young SDG Innovators Program to share insights on the theme of "China's Carbon Neutrality and Corporate Carbon Management" online.
Launched in 2019, the UN Global Compact Young SDG Innovators Program aims to assist young professionals within UN Global Compact member companies to learn how to leverage the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and new technologies to develop new products, services, and business models; to help participating companies improve cross-departmental communication, collaboration, and innovation in sustainability efforts, further converting the SDGs into social and economic value, and fostering future leadership in sustainability.
During the sharing session, Carbonstop CEO and founder Lu Hui Yan provided a detailed interpretation of China's commitment to carbon neutrality and recent policies related to carbon neutrality. He cited examples of carbon reduction and carbon neutrality initiatives taken by large enterprises both domestically and internationally, and elaborated on the necessity and pathways for corporate carbon neutrality from multiple perspectives. Corporate carbon neutrality should be approached from six aspects:
1. Secure support from the highest level of leadership and establish a carbon management team
2. Conduct a comprehensive carbon inventory for the company
3. Tool support, companies should have comprehensive carbon management software covering the group level
4. Plan and publicly announce the company's carbon reduction actions
5. Manage carbon assets effectively
6. Timely disclose carbon information
Enterprises are the basic units of socioeconomic activities, and it is these activities that constitute the absolute majority of sources of carbon emissions. In today's context, more and more companies, cities, and even some countries have set their own timelines for achieving carbon neutrality. On January 25, 2021, President Xi Jinping stated at the World Economic Forum's "Davos Agenda": "To achieve the goals of peaking carbon emissions by 2030 and reaching carbon neutrality by 2060, China must make extremely arduous efforts." Therefore, going forward, more Chinese enterprises need to take the initiative to promote carbon peaking and carbon neutrality in their production and operations to contribute to China's carbon peaking and carbon neutrality goals.
