On January 12, 2021, Tencent's official WeChat account published an article titled Tencent Launches Carbon Neutrality Plan: Using Technology to Achieve Zero Emissions, announcing the launch of its carbon neutrality plan. This move actively responds to China's carbon neutrality goals, making Tencent one of the first internet companies to initiate a carbon neutrality plan.

In July 2021, Carbonstop and Tencent signed a comprehensive cooperation agreement. This marks a full-scale collaboration between the two parties in areas such as the low-carbon big data platform, carbon reduction scenario estimation, and carbon neutrality training.

Low-Carbon Big Data Platform  

In the book Redefining the Earth: AI for Food, Energy, and Water (FEW), written by David Wallerstein, Chief Exploration Officer of Tencent, he discusses Tencent's AI + environmental protection layout, which includes strategies for AI + agriculture, AI + energy, and AI + water resources.

AI + energy is a crucial part of this layout.

The book mentions: "Many developing countries around the world are coal-rich nations. Although transitioning from traditional fossil fuels to clean energy is the direction for future development, thermal power generation still accounts for a significant proportion. Thermal power plants have vast and complex infrastructure, requiring tight coordination between plant systems and personnel to ensure safety."

AI technology can better help transform thermal power plants. By learning from historical data and mastering efficient operating strategies, AI can provide real-time operational plans that comply with standards and save material and human resources.

Carbon Neutrality Training

At the beginning of this year, Tencent launched its carbon neutrality plan, joining other global leading companies in working towards the Paris Agreement's goal of limiting global temperature rise to no more than 2 degrees Celsius.
